Yarraman State Forest

Subtropical rainforest with hoop and bunya pines towering above the forest, open eucalypt forest and native hoop pine plantations grow in Yarraman State Forest.

Horse teams used to haul the native hoop and bunya pine logs out of the forest to a tramway, which carried the logs to the sawmill at Yarraman.

Exploring Yarraman

See the forest along a 45-minute (one-way) forest drive from the highway to Meandu Coal Mine Lookout. Experimental exotic parana pine can also be seen along the drive.

Stop and have a picnic or barbecue under the hoop pines at Rogers Park. Shelter sheds, toilets, picnic tables, drinking water, barbecues and firewood are provided.

Continue along the forest drive to Stables camp, the site of the former barracks for forestry workers. Stop at two lookouts for a view over Tarong Power Station and the nearby Meandu Coal Mine. Follow the signs to the end of the forest drive.

Camping is not allowed in the forest.

Walking

Two short self-guided forest walks are located at Rogers Park. One takes 10 minutes, the other is about an hour. See how rainforest is invading the open forest along the 10-minute Tree identification circuit, further along the forest drive.

Getting there

Yarraman State Forest is on the D’Aguilar Highway 2km north of the township of Yarraman. Turn off the highway between Nanango and Yarraman at the signposted Yarraman Forest Drive. The forest is 165km or about two hours’ drive north-west of Brisbane.
